That well-known first line of the Teddy Bears’ Picnic song has inspired the theme for Macquarie Lions Bathurst’s Riverside Markets this morning.

It’s all part of Macquarie Lions’ efforts toreinvigorate the monthly market day held in Berry Park near the Evans Bridge.

Graham Carter from Macquarie Lions said this morning’s event will be the first of the planned themed market days.

“For this Saturday morning we’ve gone for the teddy bears’ picnic because it’s fun and everyone has a teddy at home somewhere,” he said.

“We’ve got a line-up of teddies ready to go, but it would be great for people coming down for the markets to bring their Big Ted or Little Ted along to have a picnic of their own.

“The teddy bear theme is in honour of the Bandaged Bear fundraiser which raises funds for Westmead Children’s Hospital.

“We will be asking people for a gold coin donation.”

This morning’s Riverside Markets will be a great chance to grab a bargain, including fresh, seasonal produce.

“There’s something for everyone,” Mr Carter said. “We’ve had 30 new stalls come on board this year. This brings the total number of stalls to more than 50, so there’s going to be plenty of choice.”

Another innovation for the markets is live entertainment, while the sausage sizzle is always a winner.

The next Riverside Markets will be held on Saturday, April 2, when the theme will be autumn harvest.

This morning’s teddy bears’ picnic will be held in Berry Park at 10am. The Riverside Markets will be held from 8am-1pm.
