FORENSICS officers are working on determining the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in bushland near Girilambone on Thursday, believed to be that of missing woman Rocky Eiao

Police confirmed on Friday that they discovered a deceased female body in scrub near the town at about 5pm on Thursday, with inspector in charge Brenton Lee from the Darling Local Area Command admitting the body appeared as if it had been there for some time.

“About 5pm yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, trail bike police were patrolling this part of the search and they located a body,” he said.

“It’s lying on its side at the moment, under a tree with quite a large canopy. It certainly looks like it’s been there for some time.”

Inspector Lee said the body was found three kilometres away from where the search was based and aerial surveillance would not have seen it.

“At the moment we have it sealed off and we’re waiting for crime scene to attend,” he said.

Ms Eiao reportedly went missing at lunchtime last Friday, February 26, and police were notified the following night. A full-scale search began on Sunday.

Inspector Lee said it’s believed the 25 year-old had a fight with her boyfriend after the car broke down and walked off into the bushland with two dogs.

He said the party of three, which also included another woman, were “out there looking at goats.”

One dog was located shortly after the disagreement while the other dog was also found deceased next to the body.

The police informed Ms Eiao’s parents of the discovery on Thursday night.

“Of course they’re terribly upset,” Inspector Lee said.

“We were able to tell the mother with the local sergeant from Nyngan police, and we also had Cootamundra police tell her father.”

Inspector Lee said the conditions of the search have been among the harshest he’s ever had to deal with.

“The heat has been over 100 degrees (37.8 degrees Celsius) and the environment itself was extremely dusty. It’s been one of the harsher environmental searches I’ve been involved with,” he said.

The discovery of the body also led to an outpouring of grief from friends and family on social media, with friend Katrina Lahay posting on Facebook “It just can’t be true, it can’t, I won’t believe it” while a cousin remembered Miss Eiao as “the most bubbly and beautiful person I have ever met”.

Inspector Lee said the police force currently has specialised forensics officers working on the case and local detectives will put together a report for the coroner.
