ORANGE Cycle and Triathlon Club president Michael Lockyer sent out a call to arms on Friday leading into this weekend’s Central West Inter-Club Triathlon Series Orange leg, after surprising news the Piranhas are second on the overall tally.

Despite easily tallying the most points in three of the four completed legs and tying for first in the other, the Piranhas narrowly trail series leaders Mudgee thanks to the amended point-scoring system.

In a bid to bring the smaller clubs back to the field, overall club tallies are adjusted based on the number of members at each club.

While most were under the impression the Piranhas would lead despite the system – the overall tallies were only revealed publically this week – the formula showed the Red Devils to be leading by just 36 points.

“We need to get as many of our members there on Sunday, to try and win back the shield,” Lockyer said, firing a challenge to his club.

“I think we probably should though, traditionally the host club gets a much bigger turn-out at their own leg of the competition so hopefully that continues.

“We’ll need as many people racing as possible.”

As per usual, Lockyer said he’s expecting a huge performance from his club’s women and older juniors, who have continually dominated the inter-club format over the last couple of seasons.

Sunday’s triathlon, at Lake Canobolas, will boast four separate races in the midgets (25m wade, 400m cycle and 200m run), juniors (50m swim, 1.6km cycle and 400m run), short external (200m, 6km, 1.6km) and the Inter-Club Series race (400m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run).

The first three races kick off at 8.30am, 8.45am and 9am respectively.

The female wave of the inter-club race starts at 9.30am, followed by the male wave five minutes later.
