All southbound lanes between Domain Road and Toorak Road have been closed after the incident around 4.15pm, and are expected to remain out of action until about 10pm.

One northbound lane is also closed to traffic.

VicRoads is encouraging motorists to take St Kilda Road or Williams Road instead.

A VicRoads spokesperson said CitiPower had attended the incident, and were in the process of replacing the affected power pole.

Meanwhile, some tram commuters will also face a longer journey home after a tram reportedly derailed on the corner of Nepean Highway and Carlisle Street in St Kilda. Update: the disruption on St Kilda Rd is expected to continue for some time. Route 3, 16 & 67 trams are still diverting via Dandenong Rd.— Yarra Trams (@yarratrams) March 4, 2016
