Labor spokesman for infrastructure and transport Anthony Albanese cited increased business activity in Wagga as one reason for very fast trains.

Speaking from the Australian Logistics Council Forum, Cr Kendall said high speed rail would allow people to live in Wagga and commute to capital cities.

“Decentralisation of population growth is going to happen and high speed rail will encourage people to live in Wagga,” Cr Kendall said.

“The east coast from Brisbane to Melbourne is going to increase by 50 per centwithin the next 15 years, so high speed rail is going to be extremely necessary to serve that population growth.”

Mr Albanese took his fight to the floor of parliament on Wednesday, calling forthe purchaseof land along the rail corridor before it was consumed by the urban sprawl.

“Stations are proposed for the Gold Coast, Casino, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Newcastle, the Central Coast, Southern Highlands, Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga and Shepparton,” he said.
