The Riverina branch of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy hosted former RAAF Wing Commander Nick Hobson at the RSL Club on Monday to explain the legislation, written roughly 120 years ago.

“Very few people know anything about the constitution and I am driven to teach people something about it,” Mr Hobson said.

Support for a republic has declinedever since the failed referendum in 1999 when 57 per cent of people favoured independence.

Year 11 TheRiverina Anglican College student Nipuni Hapangamawould prefer an independent Australia, but hadn’t made her mind up.

“The Queen just visits Australia at the expense of the taxpayer, she doesn’t play a part in our politics,” Nipuni said.
