Early bird entries closed last week and organisers have been overwhelmed by the number of entries that came flooding in on the last day.

Event coordinator Suzy Kettle said staff have been busy processing the entries, and are excited by the diverse range of originating locations.

“Early bird entries closed a week earlier this year, but are already on track with last year’s numbers,” Miss Kettle said.

“With increased marketing outside of the region and the steady number of competitor entries coming in, we are hopeful that this year’s competition will see an increase in competitors for the 25th anniversary.”

Miss Kettle said competitors from far and wide had already lodged their applications, ready to make the trip to Whyalla for the Easter long weekend.

“We have received entries from returning competitors, including reigning champion Wayne Barry, who will be returning to the event later this month to have a shot at winning the title back to back,” she said.

Standard entries close on Tuesday, March 22, so anglers keen join in competitionhave about two weeks to get their entries in without paying a late fee.

Late entries will be accepted at the welcome briefing on Thursday, March 24 between 5pm and 10pm at the Whyalla Sportfishing Club.
