Held at Gunnamatta on the Mornington Peninsula on Friday and Saturday, the  freestyle jet ski competition is the first round of the Australian titles.

It also has the current world number one free-ride champion Mark Gomez participating in the professional category which carries a prize purse of $3500.

Co-organiser Bridge Builders Youth Organisation spokeswoman Nat Haraida said the competition had seven categories including an all-female for the first time.

“We kind of describe it as Crusty Demons – an extreme motocross group – on the water,” Ms Haraida said.

“They do extreme tricks out on the water – flips, barrell rolls –   they get scored on that.”

Huck ‘n’ Hold Australia Open round one is at Gunnamatta Beach from 8am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday.
