Cr Bradbery said he hoped the council’s “visioning exercise”, in whichtourism consultancy firm TRC Tourism is workingto come up with a consensus for what should happen at the summit park, would “ensure we receive feedback from the broader community on what they want”.

“Over the years we have heard from lots of different people on lots of different visions for Mount Keira, from gondolas to bird watching retreats, adventure playgrounds, mountain biking and indigenous tourism,” he said.

“There is no point investing or promoting a particular activity if there is no market demand.”

He said his own vision would ensure the city’s“magnificent backdrop” was activated.

“Activated in such a way that it offers a variety of activities which appeal to a variety of users,” he said.

“This is not about improving signage; we are on the doorstep of Sydney with five million residents,a number which is growing rapidly and looking for quality experiences to enjoy in a safe and sustainable manner.”

“The prospect to create employment through the development of tourism infrastructure should not be underestimated – the opportunity to activate the mountain and the economy.”
